We went B.Y.O.B. Bowling! YAY!
It was so much fun, I did okay, but Alysha was the bowling star. Good times with awesome people!!!

My sweet as shoes!

It's almost September..
No really, can any of you believe I have been here for 8 months? Because I sure can't.. this is unreal!!!
While I'm taking a break from my studying (no honest, I've done so much studying, I'm just going to re-read everything and take notes tonight, no biggie!!!) I thought I would let everyone know my last few travel plans before I come home.. well, this is kind of home right now, so we'll say.. back to Canada.. in the snow.. UUUUGHHHH.. hahaha!!!
My mid-semester break is from the 27th of September to the 1st of October. Originally, I had wanted to travel to Bali, Indonesia, but, flights are pretty expensive. So, the girls and I are thinking of doing some travelling within Australia for the break. Maybe Adelaide or Melbourne. Because really, how bad would it be if I were to come home and say I lived in Australia for a year and somebody's like ".. oh! Did you go ______??" .. I just can't say no, can I? haha, so that's the plan.
The Melbourne Cup is the biggest Race Day in all of Australia and is held on the first weekend of November. I actually might go down for it with Alysha and do Adelaide over the break. It would be an absolute blast!
Mom is coming down mid-November I believe, right when I'm doing exams. Once I'm done, we're flying to Fiji for a week and then travelling New Zealand for 10 days. It's all very exciting.
I wish I had the opportunity to see the Outback of Australia. But, aside from scenery, I don't think I would be exposed to much culture. Well, obviously aboriginal culture, but, cities like Melbourne and Sydney have an array of culture that you must experience!!! I'm only human.. and a poor student, so I guess those are good excuses too!!
I'm also thinking about my next steps. Teaching in Asia, working for non-profit organizations in under developed countries, etc. I'm not ready for the 9-5 job, but, if an amazing opportunity came up, I would be ecstatic!!! I think in the future, I'd love to do something in the event-range.. even politics, running a campaign for a candidate, or just entertainment events, who knows. I've got a lot of knowledge and some great experience, so we'll see who wants me! haha
All in all, I'm sad to be leaving, but excited for my journey home and to start another chapter in my super-blessed life. not happy about coming home to the cold, but, just an excuse to buy a sweet pair of Australian-made Ugg boots! :) xo

Toonie Tour 2010: Success!
Omg, last night was SO FUN!! Seriously.
Like I said, the Canadian Students Association at the Uni hosted a Pub Crawl in Surfers last night. It started at Billy's (the bar like 15 steps away from my place..) went to Beergarden, Sin City and then Shooters. All for just $2.
For this particular night out, Jess, Alysha and I created Toonie Tour 2010 shirts with our names on them, etc. I love glitter glue FYI. We brought markers out so people could sign our shirts.. sort of like an Australian yearbook! hahaha!

The front. Gosh, I look like a beast next to those skinny-minny's.. hello child-bearing hips!!!

The back. Thanks Larry for taking the pics!!! Each of us had our names with something pertaining to Tim Hortons underneath:
Alysha: Double Double Please
Jess: I <3 Timbits
Me: ..RRRoll up my rim to win!
Everyone loved the shirts. I have mine hanging on my wall, right across from my pillowcase that I got before I left Canada. Wee!
At Beergarden, the CSA hosted some games. They needed 3 couples first. Larry and I went up.. (with Alysha's permission of course) We had to pass ping pong balls with our mouths and run them into a bowl.. it was so funny.. and WE WON!! hahaha! $25 bar tab for each of us.. oh my!!!

Our vouchers!

My dranks. Yum yum.

This looks romantic.. but it isn't.. Larry is dying of laughter
I took some pictures of everyone drawing on us. I loved reading all the messages this morning!

Great night. If someone posts the pictures of Larry and I playing that game.. I'll add them here.. hehehe! xo

Me Love Worky!
No, I like, actually love going into work. Maree and Scott are by far the most wonderful employers I could ever ask for. They're like my Australian parents. Hahaha! Maree is trying to find me a husband here so I can stay.. she's so sweet!
Yesterday while another girl Jamie and I were working, Maree handed us both an envelope. We opened them and inside was a Thank You card thanking us for all our hard work and a free movie ticket! How amazing is that??? Omg, I was floored. They're the best.
I usually work Wednesday afternoons, and Saturday/Sunday all day. It works out so nice. I get just under 20 hours a week and I'm able to have no rent problems and I have a little spending money.... weee!!! :)
This past weekend was really fun! The girls and I (Daniela, Francis, Kara, Alysha, Robyn) had a Girls Night Out on Friday. We went to the Clock Hotel in Surfers for Ladies Night before leaving to go party in Broadbeach. Sadly, we missed our bus and ended up waiting so long.. in the process of waiting, the girls made me try to Irish Dance for money!!!

Me dancing. Alysha put her shoe in front of me. So cheeky!
We were all so excited when a guy walked past and opened up his wallet! Only he didn't give money.. I was so embarrased!!! Robyn caught the moment on camera.

I can't stop laughing. I did however, stop dancing then and we hailed a cab! hahaha! Sorry Nan, it was a funny story!!!
Then we headed to Broadbeach to one of the best clubs in the Gold Coast (as recommended by all the Aussies I've met) called Platinum. That's why we had to get all dressed up! It was great, I was able to wear my race day dress again! We danced the night away and headed back to Surfers only to meet up with everyone at, where else, Waxys. Then I had a sleepover with Francis. We like to giggle. ahahaha!

Just another weekend in Paradise. :) xo

Ekka me this..
Francis, Alysha and I went to the Ekka on Thursday the 12th. The Ekka is located at the RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane and is held over 2 weeks. It's like the Ex in Toronto.. I think I've mentioned that!
Anyway, the 3 of us had that day off, so we went on a journey! Our bus got to the Nerang Station just as the train was pulling away.. UGH! We were able to buy Ekka tickets from the train station, so we did that while we waited. But man, once we got on the train to the RNA in Brisbane.. it was so packed. Like, ridiculous!!! But, we learned that schools/some businesses in Brisbane actually get Ekka Holidays.. meaning, yes, 2 weeks off. Serious.
Once we got to the Ekka it was amazing. Fair food, animals, shows, free samples, YAY!!!
I bought a dagwood dog (refer to Aussie Slang.. Bia is already using this terminology.. Good girl!! hahaha) and we headed to the building "Showbags"..
What is a showbag, you ask? Oh my, let me tell you..
SHOWBAG (noun): plastic or reusable bag filled with outrageous amounts of products.. candy (mostly), toys, food, useless junk, etc. at ridiculous prices. Like, they had a bag of KitKat type chocolates for like 10 bucks. Stupid deal like that. A.K.A. .. a parents worse nightmare!
Alysha actually got one of the best showbags from Pepsi:
-backpack (seriously.. it's really nice)
-3 bottles of Pepsi
-belt
-hat
-Mentos
-plastic Pepsi cup
-coupon to Star Shots
.. all for 20 bucks. I think she did really well. She needed a backpack!!!
Then we went into the food/wine tasting area. Oh boy, those little wine samples add up! But such yummy food.. we were happy girls! Not really any coupons though, which was saddening.
We watched a dog show, horse jumping, went to the petting zoo, etc. It was just a good day overall. We were exhausted by the time we got home though. I'm glad we went. I love those girls. xo

COMMON SHELLEY!!!!
.. I take forever to update, I know!!!
Lettuce start with Race Day. For $50, you received entry into the Gold Coast Turf Club to enjoy a day of horse races. At the races here in Australia, everyone dresses to the nines with headpieces, etc. The Uni was able to have a whole section of the club reserved for us kids! Jess was my date for the day and we looked fabulous! :)

Jess and I inside were the food and band were. Oh, hello Jimmy in the background hahaha!
When you arrive, (it's only a 5 minute cab drive from my front step..!!) you have unlimited drinks and free buffett all day! The drinks were lovely and the food was ok!

Looks gross.. but wasn't bad :P
We could also bet on horses. The first one I bet on lost, but the second time, I won 10 bucks!!! Wee! I was so pumped! hahaha! The horses were gorgeous. We also had the most perfect weather all afternoon. Such a good day!

Showing the horses before the race.

I always pick the redheads!

Go BUNDYBERG!!!!

Everyone looked fantastic. Jess, me, Megan, Robyn and Francis.

Jody sandwich!

Having a sit down girl chat.. or stutter/mumble hahahah! Daniela, Francis, Danielle, Jess and I.

I don't think a girl could ask for a hotter sandwich.. P.J. & Jimmy.. lol

I love and miss you muchos!

Geoff and Myself. :)

Oh hello boyssssssss.. hahahahaha!!!
I'm sure as soon as I post these on here, Francis will post her pictures on Facebook and I'll want to add them to her and then I'll forget.. like she did with the Whitsundays pictures. What a bum!!! hahaha I love you!!!
Anyway, the day was over at 5 p.m. and we got a free shuttle back into Surfers! Everyone had a great time and that night was fun too hanging out with the Centerpoint boys. Kyle Cleland makes me cry laughing. That is all.

Pretty much sums up race day. xox

Health Week
Today I got my bi-weekly allergy shot. Speaking of which, my serums expire this month, along with my Visa card.. hmm, looks like I'll have to get on that! Hahaha!
Today was also Health Day at Uni. They had like 30 stalls set up outside the Koala Cafe giving away free stuff! We got fat-free iced coffees, muffins, soup & rolls, apples, toothpaste, floss, toothbrushes, coupons, free packets of so much stuff.. info, keychains, recipe books, omg! It was so good! Here's some stuff:

It's great because tomorrow I was going to go buy a new toothbrush.. and now I have 3!!!
It's been so rainy these past couple days, my feet are still soaked! Hopefully the rain will let up for Thursday when the girls and I go to the Ekka in Brisbane. It's like the Ex in Toronto.. I'm really excited! Check it out: http://www.ekka.com.au/faqs.aspx
Also, I just finished posting the pictures from Roberts visit onto Facebook (so he could see them and tag himself..) so I will be posting the pictures from Race Day and telling you all about it!!!
This semester I've been printing off my lecture slides prior to the class instead of trying to take the notes. It's actually been really helpful. I know it's a lot of paper, but it's going to help with my studying.. and I don't feel behind. I feel good!!! :D
I also have to book my flight home soon. I really need to look into Fiji and New Zealand tours so I can give definite dates to the airline. Ugh. This requires effort.. something I have no much of right now.. well, I do.. I just don't want to book my flight home!!! hahahaha
P.S. My birthday is in less than a month. I'm pretty excited. Big plans in the making.. stay tuned xo

OH HAAIIIIII, it's FRIDAAIIIIII
WEE.
SO last night was my dear friend Chris' birthday. He was having his party at his place on Paradise Island. Jess and I blew up 6 balloons for him and attached funny trinkets on them and wrote him messages on each. It was really cute!!!

Myself, Natalia and the birthday boy!

Myself, Francis, Nat and Jess. I love this photo!
Tonight, Larry and Alysha came over for a movie night with popcorn. Mmm! We watched Ace Ventura.. that movie is so much funnier as an adult. hahaha!
I work tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. so I'm just taking it easy. Doing my nails, watching CSI, you know. I'm so excited for Race Day tomorrow. From 12-5 p.m. I will be dressed to the nines having fun with my friends. Ugh, I am so excited. I can't wait to post pictures on here!!! My whole outfit is just lovely.. Wee!!!
Then I work 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Sunday. Blah.
Omg, I'm just to pumped for tomorrow. I'm sorry. It's bedtime. More later. xo

August.. Seriously?
SERIOUSLY..
I'm not going to lie to you. I am having the absolute time of my life here. I do not want to come home. Not to say I don't want to see my family and friends and everyone else, because believe me, I do. I'm just so happy here. Aside from the small dramas and being a student, this is my home!
This upcoming Saturday is Uni Race Day. Everyone dresses up and goes to the races. I think I might have mentioned this before. Anyway, Francis and I are going to HarbourTown on Thursday to shop for dresses and our headpieces. Sadly, I have to work from 7-11:30 a.m. that day.. the event starts at Noon. Ugh. I might run home and take a taxi once I'm ready. Blah!!
I'm liking my classes so far. The only one I'm a bit skeptical on is tomorrow's class: Corporate Communications and P.R. The lecture last week was so dry, I almost fell asleep. We'll see how tomorrow's tutorial goes!
My feet stink. CSI: Miami is on. Things are good. hahaha!xo

Things are good. hahaha!xo
Winter in Whitsundays: Day 3 & 4
We all woke up this morning nice and early for breakfast. It was really good! We had a ton of fruit which Francis and I loved! It was also gorgeous and sunny out, so everyone was out on the front of the boat. We were sailing back to Airlie today so we all just relaxed.
The crew decided to cut the motor and bring out the sails. It was so windy. My friend from England, Ashley, got sea sick and other people felt woozy. Yucky sailing!!! hahahaha At least it was sunny!

Francis and I basically stayed in bed most of the morning and napped.
Once we got ashore we got our flip flops back (FINALLY) and headed to the Lagoon with Pam, Daryl, etc. Basically everyone was going there for some fun in the sun? Haha! After Francis and I got burnt ( ..pale ginger kids!) we walked around Airlie and bought some postcards.
At 4, Francis and Kara left to go catch their shuttle to the airport. Daryl and I went back to Beaches and checked into our room. We scored by getting a room together!! Really glad I met her. So we showered (after 3 days!! GAH!) and watched some telly. We were going to the Habibi After Party at Phoenix nightclub. We got there to find most of the boat there!!!
We got free pizza and drinks. Such a good night. We danced and laughed. So glad I stayed that extra night!
I woke up Saturday and checked out of Beaches again. I headed over to Airlie Beach to see the Saturday market. I saw Pam on the way and she told me a guy was selling Aqua de Coco there! I was so excited, I haven't had that since Brasil. We arranged to meet up at the Lagoon later.
The market was great. There were camel rides along the beach, food stalls, jewelry, clothes, etc. I bought something called "Kiwi Bread" .. basically Australia's version of German or Dutch bread. Yum. I also bought handmade anklets for Alysha and Bia. I bought one for myself too.. I love them!

The rest of the day was pretty relaxed. Lounged on the beach with James, Tam, Steph, Ashley and Pam. 5 of us were on the same Jetstar flight that evening, so we all stayed together.
At the airport, our flight was an hour late, so we played tons of card games. I laughed so hard. A bunch of Brits, a South African and me. Too much fun!!!
Back in Brissy, we said goodbye to Tam and James and Ashley, Steph and I took a shuttle back to the Gold Coast. Ashley lives in Byron right now, so we arranged to meet up in a few weeks.
All in all, the most amazing little vacation!!! I would recommend it to anyone who comes here!! xo
